The Peppa&Thyme Pimento Project

Intro

Pimento trees—also known as allspice—are native to Jamaica and deeply woven into the island’s cultural, ecological, and culinary history. Today, this vital tree is quietly disappearing due to land loss, aging groves, and lack of replanting.

The Peppa & Thyme Pimento Project is our commitment to change that. Through land stewardship and intentional reforestation, we aim to purchase land in Jamaica and repopulate the declining pimento tree population—protecting a native species while investing in long-term sustainability, heritage, and community.

This initiative is about more than planting trees. It’s about restoring balance, honoring origins, and growing something that will last for generations.

Why Pimento

Pimento is not just a spice—it is Jamaica’s spice. Indigenous to the island, the pimento tree has been central to Jamaican cooking, traditional medicine, and export for centuries.

However, many pimento trees are aging out, and few are being replaced. Without intervention, this native species faces continued decline.

By replanting pimento trees, we:

Preserve a native and culturally significant species

Support biodiversity and healthy ecosystems

Protect the future of Jamaican-grown pimento

Why Jamaica

Jamaica is the only place in the world where true pimento naturally thrives. Its soil, climate, and elevation are irreplaceable.

Supporting land-based restoration in Jamaica means:

Keeping cultivation rooted in its native environment

Supporting local land stewardship

Investing directly in the island’s ecological future

This project is guided by respect—for the land, its people, and its history.

Our Plan

Land Acquisition
Secure land in Jamaica suitable for long-term pimento cultivation.

  1. Reforestation
Plant and nurture new pimento trees using sustainable, regenerative practices.

  2. Stewardship & Care
Maintain the land responsibly, prioritizing soil health, biodiversity, and longevity.

  3. Future Growth

  • Yes—just not quite yet.

Right now, The Peppa & Thyme Pimento Project is focused on securing land and establishing a strong foundation for long-term growth. While we aren’t able to accept volunteers at this stage, community involvement is a core part of our future plans.

Our vision is to establish Yardie Organic Farms as the parent company of the Yardie Organic Foundation. Through this structure, we plan to create meaningful opportunities for supporters to visit the farm, learn about pimento cultivation, and take part in the stewardship of the land.

In the future, donors and community members may be able to:

    • Visit the farm and see the pimento trees as they grow

    • Participate in educational and hands-on experiences

    • Enjoy thoughtfully prepared meals and dining experiences rooted in the land

    • Engage with the broader mission of conservation and sustainability

As this project evolves, opportunities to get involved will be shared right here on this page. Thank you for your patience, enthusiasm, and belief in what we’re building—together, from the ground up 🌱

  • Not everyone can give money, and in-kind donations are another meaningful way to support the project. An in-kind donation is a gift of goods, services, or expertise instead of cash. Examples include:

    • Tools, seedlings, or farming materials

    • Professional services like legal, accounting, or design help

    • Time, skills, or hands-on labor

    • Equipment, storage, or transportation

In-kind donations help us stretch every dollar further and make a real impact on reforestation, education, and land stewardship. If you’d like to contribute in this way, we’d love to hear from you.
